This campground is closed and no longer in business. The site is being converted to permanent housing.

Lots of full time residents. Campground was clean, but the full time area looked "full time" with the usual clutter that seems to accumulate. It's OK for stopping thru while on the road to somewhere else. We would stay here again.

Avoid this place. It's a dump. Mostly permanent run down trailers many which are not maintained. Also a couple of rows, as closely parked together as possible, that can only be described as "road kills". They were very old dilapidated remains of campers. Bathrooms were DIRTY and rundown. As others have mentioned this is RIGHT ON the railroad tracks. Trains come thru about every 45 minutes and blow their horns. Trailer Life rated this as a 6/6/5. Who ever did the review for TL was very generous.

Quoting the IDNR brochure "Named by Family Circle magazine to be one of the 'Top Twenty Campgrounds in American'..." NOT EVEN CLOSE! Family Circle should stick to printing recipes and home decorations. Clearly, Family Circle knows nothing about campgrounds. The state of IL should be embarrassed not only for using that quote but also by the condition of this campground. Weldon Springs definitely is not one of the top 20 campgrounds in America but what we would rate as one of the 20 worst state owned campgrounds in IL. We've stayed at quite a few of IL's state parks. Weldon Springs is definitely the worst we've stayed at. The sites are very close together. Getting into and out of the sites was a chore unless a person had a small trailer like a pop up. Longer trailers, 5ers, Class A or C could manage but one needed to watch closely when driving or backing for trees, signs, and other close by campers. Our fire ring, which are not moveable, was so close to our camper and the neighbor's camper that to have a fire would have risked scorching both our campers. Had we located further away from our fire ring we would have been so close on the other side to the other neighbor's fire ring that we would have risked scorching on that side. Very few sites are level enough to avoid blocking up one side of the camper. In fact, we didn't see any campers that weren't required to be blocked on one side or the other. We were on one of the more level sites and still had to block one side 4+" just to get level side to side. There are 75 campsites. 1/3 of the sites electrical connections did not work. Although they were suppose to be all electric sites the host admitted due to lack of repairs 25 of the sites electrical connections did not work. We found 2 other sites not listed by the host which also did not work. Even if it were well maintained and cleaned there is no way this campground could or should ever be considered for such ratings by Family Circle or anyone else associated with camping. We drove thru the COE parks a few miles northeast of Weldon Springs on Clinton Lake. The COE sites were well maintained, all were level, some had full hookups, W/S/E, widely spaced, more rural, and overall nice appearance. We will never stay at Weldon Springs again. When in the area we will be staying at one of the COE parks at Clinton Lake.

Sites are very tight and close together. Bathrooms/showers were dirty due to the heavy traffic volume. We might stay here again if in the area but would look other places first.

Very nice regional park. When we called for reservations the host said they had one available because the particular site was "not that good". Site was 2 down from the office, very clean, and more than adequate. We were very satisfied with it. We would recommend this to others and we would stay here again.

Camp sites were OK but not well maintained. Some trash around the site. Shared electrical boxes. Our box had only a 30A and a 20A. If the other spot had taken the 30A outlet then that would have only left the 20A which would not be enough for AC. We got limited WiFi coverage even tho we were close to the office. I tried several places around the park and coverage was no better. Don't depend on WiFi coverage if that's an issue. Water has a very hard mineral taste. Campground hosts were friendly but not attentive to complaints and what we feel was outright lying. Owner's brother and several others stay at the campgrounds in a run down Class C a few sites from the office. (Reminded me of Cousin Eddie in "Vacation".) They turn their radio on at about 10AM every day, place the speaker so it's blaring out a window, and leave it on all day, even when no one is at the campsite and often past 10PM. The radio can be heard 10-15 sites away. We complained to the owner, before we knew it was his brother, and he acted dumb like he didn't know there was a problem and said he didn't know who the person was. Owner said he would talk to security. That night at 10:45 PM, no one was in the campsite and radio still blaring, I talked to security who said the owner had not mentioned any problem. Security said he was just by the site to tell them to turn down the radio but no one was at the site. While talking to security the brother came out of the owner's place and admitted he had left the radio on but didn't think it was a problem. He then turned it down but during the next few days it would be blaring again all day long. Owner still refused to handle the complaint. We will not stay here again due to the lack of customer service and in effect being lied to by the owners.

Very clean campground. Hosts are very friendly and helpful. They work hard at keeping the campground in good conditions as we saw them all the time cleaning up and maintaining the place. WiFi is only available next to the game room/office. We would stay here again.

For active or retired military. Outstanding milcamp. The Blue Angels practice on Tuesday and Wednesday at 8:30 AM and fly their show nearly right over the campground. This campground could probably be rated a 10 as far as cleanliness, site spacing, friendliness of the hosts, facilities, and services.
